Best Man Wedding Speech Tips

As the best man, you have certain responsibilites. Just as the bride has her maid of honor to help her out, you are the groom's right-hand man. One of your duties is to present a wedding speech, which is usually the third speech to be given and follows after the groom's speech.

The best man's speech needs to have some funny tales (tastefully funny ones...not over-the-top or "explicit" stories that no one wants to hear, especially on this special day). Your speech is made on behalf of the bridal attendants to the bride and groom. Here are some guidelines to follow:

• Begin by accepting the toast that was given by the groom to the bridesmaids.



• Thank the groom for asking you to be the best man. Usually a joke is made here about being the best man.



• Present good wishes to the bride and groom and wish them a happy future together. Tell a funny story about the groom (remember - tasteful, not vulgar or rude, and NEVER mention previous girlfriends).



• Relate a funny or touching story about the bride and groom together. Perhaps how they met or a funny ancedote in regards to planning the wedding.



• Thank the hosts of the wedding. This may be the bride's parents or it may be shared between the 2 families. If someone other than the parents have paid and hosted the wedding, thank them as well.



• Read any telegrams, faxes and cards from family and close friends that couldn't attend the wedding.

NOTE: If there is no Master of Ceremony, the best man will announce the next event, such as cutting the cake, etc.
